MYELOMA HALTON-PEEL MYELOMA SUPPORT GROUP
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & EVENTS:
Community Outreach: Assist with the promotion of the Halton-Peel & Area Myeloma Support Group at community events by staffing the HPAMSG booth. Welcoming new members, providing an overview of the group and our meeting schedule, answering general questions, and distributing myeloma publications.
Event Support: Assist with a variety of roles - helping where needed. Activities may include manning a sign-in table, greeting new members, manning a Myeloma Canada merchandise table, setting up and manning a myeloma information and publication table, room set-up, preparing refreshments, and post meeting clean-up.
Availability - volunteers mostly required on the occasional weekend, or the occasional weeknight, at the discretion of the Event Leader. Volunteers may cover at times that the Event Leader is not available, or on a break.
HPAMSG Group Promotional Print Materials - Assist with the development of HPAMSG brochure, posters, flyers, and patient packages.
HPAMSG Website Team - Assist with posting events, articles, photos, etc on the HPAMSG Website. Assist in managing and maintaining the HPAMSG Website.
Requirements: must be comfortable drafting postings, previous experience with website development using GoDaddy is a plus. Will be interaction with other individuals who enjoy writing articles or stories for the group.
HPAMSG was actively involved with supporting two (2) annual fundraising initiatives to support Myeloma Canada.
The Annual 'Scramble for the Cure' Golf Tournament was founded and led by Gord Ross until 2017, as well as the Annual Mississauga Myeloma March which was led by Anne Spencer until 2017. As of 2018 the march will be led buy our group. A new fundraiser is in the developmental stages with proceeds to support our very own community based organization, the Halton-Peel Myeloma Support Group.
We are seeking creative hands-on team members to assist with various pre-event, during event, and post event tasks.
PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT FOR HPAMSG MEMBERS: (HPAMSG membership required)
In peer-to-peer support you will share general information about how you coped with going through a specific myeloma treatment, or a diagnosis, with a new myeloma patient or caregiver about to embark on a similar situation. The objective is to provide encouragement & reassurance, as opposed to giving medical advice.
Pre-requisite: Must attend a two hour training session to best prepare to be a peer-to-peer support leader
Availability: On a per need basis
